1. What cookies and similar storage are

Cookies are small text records a website asks a browser to store. Similar technologies include local storage and provider identifiers. They can last for one session or until an expiry date or deletion.

2. Core website, API and diagnostics

The public website, JSON and text endpoints, IP lookup, IPv4/IPv6 probes, DNS and WebRTC tests, and diagnostic-share creation and verification are designed to work without a public visitor session cookie or persistent local-storage identifier. Language is taken from the URL or request headers and is not stored as a preference.

Diagnostic share data is carried in the URL fragment. Browsers do not send that fragment in the initial page request; the application submits the signed token to the verification endpoint only when the shared result is opened. The token expires after 24 hours and is not stored as a server-side share record.

3. Strictly necessary administration

The non-public administration area uses a secure, HTTP-only, same-site session cookie after authorized staff authenticate. It is restricted to the administration path and supports login state and security controls. Blocking it prevents administration login but does not affect the public tools.

4. Optional providers

Content pages can support separately configured audience analytics or advertising. These integrations are not needed for the core tools. When enabled, a provider may receive IP address, browser metadata and page URL through the network connection and may set or read cookies or similar identifiers under its own terms. The active page configuration and any consent control determine whether optional provider code runs.

5. Category summary

• Public core tools: no application session cookie or persistent preference identifier required.
• Administration: strictly necessary secure session cookie, staff only, administration path only.
• Analytics: optional and configuration-dependent.
• Advertising: optional and configuration-dependent.

6. Your controls

You can inspect, block or delete cookies and site data in browser settings. Browser privacy controls can also restrict third-party storage. Blocking administration cookies affects staff login only. If a consent control is displayed, use it to change optional choices; withdrawing consent does not affect earlier lawful processing.

7. Changes

We update this policy when cookie names, purposes, providers, features or retention materially change. The last-updated date identifies the current version.
